These are photos of the lighthouse where Amma (Gayle's Grandma Thora), was a lighthouse keeper in Iceland when Grampa Askell and his brothers were young teens.

This photo is of the lighthouse as it is now. When Amma was there, the lighthouse was not automated, but she had to light the beacon and keep it lit for ships sailing nearby. Now it's totally automated. There were no roads to the lighthouse. Everything had to come by boat, and the nearest farm was a long hike away.

This photo shows the lighthouse as it's approached from the sea. It sits just near the edge of high cliffs.



This photo is of Thora and her son at the lighthouse.







This shows the lighthouse from the south, with the cliffs surrounding it. The last photo shows the cliffs where Grampa and his brothers climbed down using ropes hanging over the cliff edge, to hunt for eggs (puffin or maybe eider, I don't know).
